You never know when an emergency is going to occur so it's important that you are prepared. If an emergency occurs it's crucial you evacuate as quickly and safely as possible. Some people may not have the ability to evacuate independently and may require assistance to help them escape, such as those who are less mobile. They rely on someone to help them escape efficiently. It's important their caregiver has a plan in place to ensure they are evacuated rapidly as well as the caregiver.
What Is An Evacuation Sheet?
Evacuation sheets are designed to transport immobile patients during an emergency. They are usually placed underneath the mattress in preparation for a quick evacuation for the patient. Those who are unable to evacuate independently may require an evacuation sheet, including those who have limited mobility or are bed ridden. This aid is ideal for those who reside above the ground floor in case of a fire emergency where the elevators may shut down and the caregivers will only have access to stairways so will need to evacuate the patient down the stairs. Evacuation sheets hold the patient in place as the sheet wraps around the patient within the mattress to form a protective sledge so they can be transported safely and efficiently by the caregiver. This aid can be found in care homes, hospitals, public centres, shopping centres and offices.
What Are The Different Types Of Evacuation Sheets?
There are various types of evacuation sheets but most can be operated by using only one or two people. The flexible material combined with a foam mattress assists passing through doorways and speeds up the evacuation process. Some are only suitable for specific types of mattresses so it's important to check the mattress type to find the most suitable evacuation sheet for you or your patient.
At Bayliss Mobility we have a range of evacuation sheets to suit the users individual needs.
Our standard evacuation sheet is designed to be placed under a anti-pressure mattress. It simply fixes to the bottom of the mattress by means of strong elastic. It features strong safety belts which hold the patient securely on the mattress during evacuation. The combination of slippery sheet and the mattress which will flex, will easily pass through narrow doorways and down stairs or steps. The holding strap at the head is to hold back on stairways which prevents the patient slipping or sliding.
When using our evacuation sledge with pouch, patients will feel secure and comfortable when when being transported over surfaces such as steps or down stairs. The sledge consists of dual inner foam and a lower and upper layer which makes it firm and reliable for emergency evacuations for patients in hospitals or nursing homes. Featuring safety belts and a foot pocket which helps to hold the patient securely in place. The pulling loops at either end and the slippery bottom assist the caregiver to evacuate the patient swiftly and safely but this does require two people to evacuate the patient. It can be stored in its pouch and can be hung on a patients wall or door for easy access.
Our bariatric evacuation sledge is designed for larger patients who are less mobile or bed ridden. One of the benefits of this sledge is that the dual layer foam is widened to accommodate for a larger person. The base layer being heavy duty construction to aid patients in transit on uneven surfaces such as concrete or stairs or steps. The layer surface foam is to comfort the patient during the evacuation process. The strong webbing runs the full length to aid in strength and mobility when moving a patient. This sledge features safety belts and a foot pocket which holds a patient securely in place. The pulling loops at each end and a slippery coated bottom provide the caregiver with easy grip and swift movement. The loop at the head end is to hold back when descending stairways, which also reassures the patients being evacuated. The whole item can be stored in its heavy duty pouch, this can then be hung on a patients wall for easy storage and access when needed.
Our compact evacuation mat has been designed to be small and compact as well as being very hardwearing. Our evacuation mat is made of high durable fabric with a foam pad for extra comfort. The webbing runs the full length of the unit encapsulating both head and foot ends and the pulling straps provide a firm grip for the caregiver. Once the patient is on the main unit, they can be enveloped for security by the wings on either side. Secured by the webbing and buckles the patient can then be pulled to safety by the means of the head and foot straps. The slippy bottom ensures easy movement on any surface such as carpet, vinyl or even concrete. When not in use, this mat can be stored securely and discreetly under a patients bed or in a wardrobe.
If you're caring for a patient who cannot get out of bed on their own, our evacuation mats are an ideal aid to have in case of an emergency.
